Edema is a buildup of fluid in the body, often visible as swelling in the legs, arms, or other parts of the body. This occurs when fluid is not properly drained through the lymphatic system or blood circulation. Edema can have various causes, such as impaired lymphatic function, an injury, or an underlying medical condition.
