  • Stress and tensionThis can lead to tension in the jaw muscles.
  • Teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism): This often happens unconsciously, especially at night.
  • Abnormal oral habits: Such as chewing gum, biting your nails, biting your pen or pressing your tongue.

Treatment by the Jaw Physiotherapist

At Fysi we start every treatment with an intake interview, where we map out your complaints. Based on this, a personal treatment plan is drawn up that is focused on your specific complaints and needs. The treatment by our jaw physiotherapist can consist of the following components:
  • Mobilization of the jaw joint: Manual techniques are used to improve the mobility of the jaw joint and reduce pain.
  • Exercises to reduce tension in the jaw muscles: These exercises can help relax the jaw muscles and reduce the tension that causes pain.
  • Manual therapy: Massaging the head, neck and throat area can help loosen tense muscles and relieve pain.
  • Advice on posture and habitsCorrecting bad habits, such as persistent jaw clenching or nail biting, can help prevent future problems.
In addition, we will teach you exercises and techniques that you can use at home to support your recovery. Our goal is not only to alleviate your current symptoms, but also to ensure that you have less chance of recurring jaw problems in the long term.
