Intermittent claudication, also known as window shopping legs, is a vascular condition caused by peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This means that the arteries in the legs are narrowed by arteriosclerosis, causing less blood and oxygen to flow to the muscles. This leads to pain or cramps in the legs when walking, which means you have to take frequent breaks. Physiotherapy can help improve blood flow and increase your walking distance.

What could be wrong?

Intermittent claudication is caused by narrowed arteries. This is caused by the accumulation of fat and calcium in the vessel walls, which impedes blood flow. Risk factors include:

\

Smoking

\

High blood pressure

\
Diabetes
\
High cholesterol
\
Overweight
\

Little movement

Because PAD is a progressive condition, timely treatment is essential to prevent complications.
