I have pain in my elbow

Home » Complaints » Elbow complaints

The elbow is a hinge joint that connects the upper arm (humerus) to the forearm (radius and ulna). It is responsible for bending (flexion) and straightening (extension) the arm, as well as rotating the forearm (pronation and supination). The elbow's stability and mobility are supported by a network of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones.

Symptoms of elbow pain

\

Pain on the inside or outside of the elbow;

\

Swelling or stiffness around the joint;

\

Weakness or difficulty bending or straightening the arm;

\

Pain when lifting or rotating the forearm.

What could be wrong?

Several problems can occur in the elbow, including:

\

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis):

Inflammation of the tendons on the outside of the elbow, often due to overuse.

\

Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis):

Inflammation of the tendons on the inside of the elbow, also due to overuse.

\

Bursitis:

Inflammation of the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that protects the bones, muscles, and tendons.

\

Arthritis:

Inflammation of the joints in the elbow, leading to pain and stiffness.

\

Tendon tears:

Tears in the tendons due to overuse or a sudden movement.

\

Fractures:

Fractures in any of the bones of the elbow due to trauma or a fall.

Your path to recovery

Below you will find treatments that can play a role in this:

Diagnosis and evaluation

The physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of the elbow pain and assess the severity of the injury.

Exercise therapy

Focused on improving elbow range of motion, strength, and flexibility. Specific exercises can help restore function and prevent future injuries.

Manual therapy

Mobilization and massage techniques to improve range of motion, reduce muscle tension and promote healing.

Pain management

Use of techniques such as ice treatments and shockwave therapy to reduce pain and inflammation.

Rehabilitation programs

For post-operative patients or serious injuries, a specific rehabilitation program can be designed to enable a safe and effective return to daily activities and sports.
