I have pain in my knee

Home » Complaints » Knee complaints

The knee is one of the largest joints in the body. It connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia) and is made up of several structures that work together to provide movement and stability. These structures include bones, cartilage (meniscus), ligaments, and muscles. The knee primarily allows for bending (flexion) and straightening (extension) of the leg, but also plays a role in rotation and side-to-side movements.

Symptoms of knee pain

\

Pain when bending or straightening the knee;

\

Swelling or stiffness around the knee joint;

\

Instability or sagging of the knee;

\

Pain in the front or side of the knee when loaded.

What could be wrong?

Several problems can occur in the knee, including:

\

Cruciate ligament injury:

Tearing of the anterior (ACL) or posterior (PCL) cruciate ligament due to sudden movements or trauma.

\

Meniscus injury:

Tearing of the menisci due to rotational movements or wear and tear.

\

Knee osteoarthritis:

Wear and tear of the cartilage, leading to pain and stiffness.

\

Patellofemoral pain syndrome:

Pain around the kneecap due to overuse or misalignment.

\

Runner's knee (Iliotibial band syndrome):

Irritation of the iliotibial band due to overuse, often in runners.

\

Bursitis:

Inflammation of the bursa in the knee, caused by overuse or trauma.

\

Tendon tears:

Tears in the tendons, such as the patellar tendon, due to overuse or sudden movements.

Your path to recovery

Below you will find treatments that can play a role in this:

Diagnosis and evaluation

The physical therapist will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of the knee pain and assess the severity of the injury.

Exercise therapy

Focused on improving knee range of motion, strength, and stability. Specific exercises can help restore function and prevent future injuries.

Manual therapy

Mobilization and massage techniques to improve range of motion, reduce muscle tension and promote healing.

Pain management

Use of techniques such as ice treatments and shockwave therapy to reduce pain and inflammation.

Rehabilitation programs

For post-operative patients or serious injuries, a specific rehabilitation program can be designed to enable a safe and effective return to daily activities and sports.

Education and prevention

Advice on posture correction, ergonomics and preventive measures to prevent recurrence of complaints.
