Do you suffer from knee osteoarthritis and are you curious which exercises help? Read all about the exercises that our physiotherapist recommends.

You suffer from osteoarthritis in your knee(s). That is extremely annoying, because it is a condition for which there is no medicine. The cartilage in your knee becomes thinner, causing you to experience a lot of pain and stiffness. This makes it less fun and attractive to continue practicing your beloved walks or favorite sport. You can make knee osteoarthritis very bearable by performing the right exercises. As crazy as it sounds, it is best to continue exercising if you have osteoarthritis. Read all about the exercises that our physiotherapist recommends.

How does osteoarthritis of the knee develop?

Osteoarthritis is especially common in older people. Osteoarthritis often occurs due to wear and tear and old age. The cartilage deteriorates over the years and (unfortunately) no medicine has yet been developed for this. We see many older patients come to our practice. The pain caused by knee osteoarthritis can be relieved and inhibited by various exercises. But don't be misled into thinking that osteoarthritis only occurs in the elderly. Young people can also develop osteoarthritis (in their knees). Trauma and injury can result in damage to the cartilage, which can cause knee osteoarthritis even at a young age.

Can you exercise with osteoarthritis?

You may wonder whether you can exercise if you have osteoarthritis in your knee (or elsewhere in the body). Those stiff muscles hurt during exercise. Fortunately, you don't have to stop your favorite activity! It is actually very healthy to continue exercising and a very good idea to start a sport if you have not already done so. Your pain complaints can be reduced by exercising. This strengthens your muscles and your stability. Although it is not very attractive to do, we do recommend exercising with knee osteoarthritis.

Move more freely through exercises aimed at your knee osteoarthritis

Unfortunately, knee osteoarthritis cannot be cured, but with the right exercises you can make it a lot more bearable for yourself. Of course you can use painkillers for the pain. We do recommend that you consciously reduce the pain caused by osteoarthritis in your knee. The most important tip: keep moving! This is best done with the help of a physiotherapist.
